音樂是一門藝術以及傳播美與歡樂的媒介。音樂可分為創作、演奏、聆聽三個過程，在不同的社會文化，音樂的發展過程及理解都有所差異。
不少學生自幼開始習樂器，家長希望培養子女的音樂觸覺和耐性。而修讀音樂系，不單可以培養學生的音樂造詣，也可以培養將來職場需要的溝通技巧、團隊合作、時間管理、批判思考等廣泛的就業技能。
